Arusha Town - Tarangire National Park

Morning: Drive to Tarangire National Park for some amazing game viewing. The game in this beautiful national park is plentiful and the magnificent bird watching will make a devoted birder (and even the most reluctant) appreciate them. The park is home to up to 2,500 elephants which can be seen looking for underground water in the dry riverbeds during the dry season. You will also see migratory wildebeest, zebra, buffalo, and other incredible sightings like lion, cheetah, leopard, giraffe, baboon, and waterbuck. The park’s scenery is amazing, a landscape dotted with huge baobab trees and the meandering life-giving Tarangire River. It offers excellent game viewing during the dry season (June to October) when the migratory wildebeest and zebra are around.

Lunch: We will enjoy a picnic lunch in the park.

Afternoon: After lunch, we’ll continue our game-viewing drive to witness the wildlife of Tarangire National Park. Afterwards, we’ll head to our lodgings, a permanent lodge in the midst of the Ngorongoro Highlands.

Ngorongoro Crater Tour to Serengeti National Park

Breakfast: At the lodge.

Morning: We drive through the Ngorongoro conservation before descending, 610 meters down to the grasslands of the crater floor, an area of about 265 square kilometers. Despite its small size, the Crater is a Big 5 country and the openness of the terrain means easy and rewarding game viewing. You will spend the day exploring the crater floor, stopping to picnic on the grasslands amidst the grazing herds. Formed by a massive volcanic eruption, the world’s largest intact and un-flooded caldera provides a year-round home to an astonishing 25,000 large mammals including black rhino, wildebeest, and zebra along with Africa’s densest concentrations of hyena.

The Crater’s forests shelter elephants and buffalo, and its wetlands are home to hippos and flamingos while lions, jackals, leopards, and caracals make up the full range of predators. After lunch, you leave the crater behind and drive to the Serengeti National Park.

Afternoon: We’ll reach our carefully selected tented camp by mid-afternoon and you’ll have time to settle in before dinner.

The multitude and diversity of wildlife species in this huge protected area are unrivaled anywhere on the planet. Serengeti, in fact, is the Maasai word that means “endless plain.” We’ll return to camp in between game-viewing drives for lunch.

Lunch: At the main dining tent.

Afternoon: After time to relax, we’ll head out on our afternoon game-viewing drive. Our guides will again help us identify the more elusive animal species, such as bat-eared fox and golden jackal, as well as rare birds like the purple grenadier and the red-cheeked cordon bleu. See if you can spot the odd-looking Secretary bird or the elegant grey crowned crane.

Serengeti game-viewing drives

Throughout our ride, our driver-guides will provide expert insight on the various species we’ll encounter.

Lunch: At the camp.

Afternoon: Enjoy a couple of hours of free time before heading out for our final game-viewing excursion in the Serengeti. Isolated rock groups, called kopjes, provide shelter to the solitary leopard, pairs of cheetahs, and prides of lion. We’ll learn from our driver-guides about the clues that tell you if one has recently hunted or is about to hunt. Their quarry is the lone gazelle or vulnerable calf spotted amongst the hundreds of thousands of hoofed herbivores: antelope, zebra, and the ever-present wildebeest.

Dinner: At the camp.

Evening: You are free to retire to your tent to pack or rest up before tomorrow’s day of discoveries.

Day 6:
Serengeti National Park to Ngorongoro Highlands

Breakfast:  At the Camp.

The Serengeti is truly spectacular. It is famous for its vast open grasslands which allow for excellent sightings of wildlife. The Serengeti’s climate and vegetation have remained largely untouched for millions of years. Whilst it boasts abundant wildlife, it is perhaps best known for the annual Great Migration. Vast numbers of wildebeest; accompanied by large numbers of zebra and antelope move in an annual pattern, constantly seeking fresh grazing. The migration can be found during any given month; you just need to know where to look! The question should really be about the ‘best places’ to see the animals during a certain time of year. In addition to the iconic landscapes, you have a good chance of encountering predators and you may see lion, cheetah and leopard. It is a truly life-changing experience.

Afternoon: (Optional) we’ll visiting the Oldupai gorge, and learn about the origin of human kind, and some time at the museum.

Dinner: At the Lodge.

Evening: You are free to remain in the main dining area or around the lodge to discuss the day’s wildlife,

Day 7:
Ngorongoro Highlands to Lake Manyara

Breakfast: At the lodge.

Morning: Your next safari stop is Lake Manyara, a fantastic and relatively compact park. There is so much to look forward to here. To start with, there’s the dramatic scenery of cliffs, forest and lake all in a relatively small area. You’re also in for a treat when it comes to wildlife. Lake Manyara is famous for its elephants that roam the forests, its gregarious troops of olive baboons, and its lions which, unusually, climb trees. It’s a unique combination that offers something a little different to the other parks in Tanzania’s north. This marks the end of your safari in Tanzania. We hope that you have enjoyed your trip and that you’re already planning your next safari.

Lunch: Picnic in the park

Afternoon: Drive back to Arusha, where your guide will drop you at the airport for your own-ward connection.
