7 Days Highlights of Grumeti Migration Lodge & Tented camps

If you want to see the largest herd movement of animals on the planet and also visit the best national parks in northern Tanzania, this is the perfect itinerary for you. The focus during this trip will be on the western part of the Serengeti, where the Great Migration across the Grumeti River from May to July. The herds of wildebeest en zebra must outsmart the huge Nile crocodiles and fast-flowing water before facing predators waiting on the other side. An amazing spectacle.

Day by day

Day 1:
Arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport

Welcome to Tanzania

Once you set foot in Tanzanian soil, you will immediately be embraced by the friendly nature of the people. Outside our representative awaits with a broad simile to welcome you, and accompany you to the lodge where you will receive heartfelt welcome. During the journey, you will catch a glimpse of Tanzania amazing landscape, and perhaps the ever presence Impressive Mt. Kilimanjaro. Upon arrival, we will be provided with a briefing for your entire safari.

Day 2:
Arusha to Tarangire National Park

Breakfast: at the lodge

Morning: Explore one of Tanzania’s most rewarding national parks, a land of big baobab trees, big elephants and big cats. No wonder this ends up being the favorite park in Tanzania for many visitors. Sightings of wildebeest, giraffes, hippos, buffaloes, baboons, vervet monkeys and zebras are also almost guaranteed. Lions are plentiful here – Tarangire is home to one of Tanzania’s healthiest lion populations. While you’ll have to work a little harder to see a cheetah or leopard, it will only enhance your excitement when you do. You can also look forward to classic safari scenery – savannah plains, river woodlands and rocky hills.

Lunch: We will enjoy a picnic in the park.

Afternoon: After lunch, we’ll continue our game-viewing drive to witness the wildlife of Tarangire National Park. Afterwards, we’ll head to our, permanent lodge in the midst of the Ngorongoro highlands.

Dinner: At the lodge.

Evening: You are free to remain in the lounge area to discuss the day’s activities.

Day 3:
Karatu to Serengeti National Park

Breakfast: at the lodge

In the next 2 days, we’ll be venturing towards the Western corridor of Serengeti National Park, renowned for the world-famous huge crocodiles.

Embark on an exhilarating chase after the great migration, one of the world most spectacular natural events. It’s the undisputed highlight of safari experience, and a dream come true for any wildlife enthusiasm.

Lunch: picnic in the sight of migration,

Witness the ground tremble as thousands upon thousands of hooves pound the earth, trying to cross the crocodile infested Grumeti-River in search of good grazing, and water. Meanwhile top-predators like crocodile, lion, hyena -and more await patently to strike.

Evening: Spend the nights in the so called –migration camp, strategically located close to the migration, ensuring you won’t miss a single moment of the action.

Day 4:
Explore the Serengeti Great Migration (Western Corridor)

Breakfast: at the camp

Rise up early, so that you can depart your camp for a full day moving with the herds across the plains exploring the Great Migration. An impressive experience to see all those hoofed mammals, followed by predators, migrate in a clockwise circle every year. If you want to spot the Big Five (lion, elephant, leopard, rhino, and buffalo) all in one park, the Serengeti is the place to be. Return back to Asanja Nyasirori tented camp for dinner and overnight. The views from the lodge over the Serengeti are fantastic.

Dinner: At the main dining tent.

Evening: Evening: Spend the nights in the so called –migration camp, strategically located close to the migration, ensuring you won’t miss a single moment of the action.

Day 5:
Serengeti game-viewing drives

Breakfast: At the camp.

Morning: After breakfast, you depart for a game drive in the central part of the Serengeti. This part is famous for the abundance of lions and leopards that can usually be seen quite easily. Game viewing in this central area is spectacular all year round. Enjoy the views of endless plains and stunning wildlife like cheetahs, elephants, giraffes, hippos, ostrich, pangolin, and many more. Dinner and overnight will be at Mawe Tented camp. This camp is the perfect blend of old African charm and elegance in the heart of Serengeti National Park.

Dinner: At the camp.

Evening: You are free to retire to your tent to pack or rest up before tomorrow’s day of discoveries.

Day 6:
Serengeti National Park to Ngorongoro crater Tour

Breakfast: At the camp.

Morning: We drive through the Ngorongoro conservation before descending, 610 meters down to the grasslands of the crater floor, an area of about 265 square kilometers. Despite its small size, the Crater is a Big 5 country and the openness of the terrain means easy and rewarding game viewing. You will spend the day exploring the crater floor, stopping to picnic on the grasslands amidst the grazing herds. Formed by a massive volcanic eruption, the world’s largest intact and un-flooded caldera provides a year-round home to an astonishing 25,000 large mammals including black rhino, wildebeest, and zebra along with Africa’s densest concentrations of hyena.

The Crater’s forests shelter elephants and buffalo, and its wetlands are home to hippos and flamingos while lions, jackals, leopards, and caracals make up the full range of predators. After lunch, you leave the crater behind and drive to Karatu

Dinner: At the lodge.

Evening: You are free to remain in the lounge area or retire to you room.

Day 7:
Ngorongoro Highlands to Arusha

Breakfast: at the lodge

After 30 minutes of drive we’ll enter Lake manyara National Park, one of the smallest parks in Tanzania, named after the huge lake which covers a third of the parks area. Yet, Lake Manyara is the park with the greatest diversity of habitat than most huge parks, and a great array of wildlife.

You may find yourself in thick woodlands where elephants feast, and lions are lurking among tree brunches. Drive past muddy pools full of hippos, and mysterious jungle where baboons, and monkeys rule. The lake side where thousands of vibrant flamingoes, pelicans, and storks make their summer home.

Lunch: picnic overlooking the Lake,

And don’t forget the impressive 400-Meters – deep Rift Valley Escarpment. A crack in the earth that stretches for a thousand kilometers across East-Africa.

Suggestion.

You can extend your holiday with a visit to the crystal clear waters of the tropical Island of Zanzibar or Pemba.
