This 9-day, safari itinerary takes you on a journey through Tanzania’s unrivaled wildlife destinations – Lake Manyara, the Ngorongoro Crater, and the fabled Serengeti and Rubondo Island National Park – to deliver a dramatic and diverse big game safari.

Spend a day in Lake Manyara National Park, home to 450 bird varieties, before journeying to the Ngorongoro crater to encounter abundant wildlife including its fearsome big cats and the majestic Big 5. Continue to the Serengeti National to witness the epic annual migration of wildebeest through its plains. Lastly, immerse in the rustic Rubondo National Park for exciting varieties of activities, a tranquil escape packed with cultural discoveries. The Serengeti game viewing is superb all year round, but if you have timed your safari with the wildebeest migration, you can expect massed herds and plenty of predator action.

Day 1: Arusha –Lake Manyara national park

“One day exploring Lake Manyara”

You leave Arusha after breakfast with a picnic lunch packed safely away, The Rift Valley landscape drifts closer as your guide heads for Lake Manyara National Park, the smallest park on the northern circuit, but one capable of delivering fantastic game viewing. Home to Tanzania’s famous tree-climbing lions, Manyara supports large numbers of buffalo, giraffe, zebra, and many antelope species. The park is wedged between the steep Gregory Rift wall and the soda lake, providing amazing landscapes with ample opportunity to see a variety of wildlife. The Alkaline waters of the lake attract large flocks of flamingo and pelican along with 400 species of birds recorded in the park. Along the northern side of the park, the groundwater rain forest also provides a lush environment perfect for Blue Monkey, Vervet Monkey, and Baboons. We then enter the acacia woodland, where elephants and giraffes are commonly spotted in addition to mongoose, wildebeest, and buffalo. This is the right habitat for the famous Lake Manyara tree-climbing lions that can be found scanning the plains and the woodland for prey while at the same-time avoiding biting insects. We then continue to the short grasslands on the lake’s shores where we find hippo and a fantastic amount of birdlife. In the late afternoon, we will the park, and proceed to our lodge Bougainvillea safari lodge.

Day 2: The Ngorongoro Crater – Serengeti national park.

Explore the crater on a day of game viewing.

We start the day before sunrise following the crater rim to the descent road, enjoying the sunrise over the crater as we drive down to the crater floor arriving before the crowds and while the wildlife is most active. We start our game drive in the world’s largest UN flooded caldera, intact and unfilled volcanic caldera formed when a large volcano exploded and collapsed on itself two to three million years ago. The crater floor covers 265 square miles with steep walls measuring 600 meters. Not only do we find this amazing geographic feature but it has become a bit of a trap, with a massive population of wildlife that has stumbled into the crater, which today is estimated to be nearly 30,000 large animals, including buffalo, elephant, zebra, wildebeest, hyena, hippo, lions, ostrich, and other antelope. We enjoy lunch near the hippo pool of Ngoitokitok Spring, before driving out of the crater through the highlands and out onto the Serengeti plains where we find our camp.

Day 3-4: Exploring the Serengeti National Park.

“Two days exploring Serengeti”

Spend the two days exploring this wonderful park for the magnificent big cats sighting, from the valleys, swamps, mammoth kopjes, and plains – a famous migration corridor and UNESCO World Heritage site. Here, you’ll have a chance to witness the great migration of wildebeest and zebra. Depending on the time of the year, the migration is within the southern grass plains and the central part during the months of December-May. Within these two days, we will explore the park rich habitats for the big cats who rule the plains, Serengeti is home to lion, leopard, hippos, cheetah, giraffe, elands, warthog, and hyrax. The plains are dotted with mammoth rock out-crop, swamps, valleys, acacia tree lines, and River-line habitats, in the central part, marking game-viewing good throughout the year. Your accommodation-Serengeti Heritage camp-lies snugly in a clearing surrounded by Acacia trees its 13 spacious walk-in tents create an intimate atmosphere for guests while indulging them with the amenities of a big lodge, as all tents are equipped with running water, flush toilets, hot and cold water shower.

Day 5: Serengeti National Park—Mwanza

You leave Serengeti Heritage camp after breakfast with a picnic lunch packed safely away. The rolling hills of the Serengeti landscape drift past as your guide heads for the western corridor, the least visited area of the Serengeti National Park, but one capable of delivering fantastic game viewing. Home to Africa 18-20 feet crocodiles, the western corridor supports large numbers of buffalo, giraffe, zebra, and many antelope species, most evident during the dry season when concentrations of animals at the life-giving Grumeti River are at their peak. Your accommodation – Tilapia hotel – located in Mwanza on the Lake Shores of Lake Victoria.

Day 6-7: Mwanza –Rubondo Island National Park.

With your breakfast depart at 6.00am for the 4 to 5 hours’ drive to Rubondo Island National park. Ride a boat for another 30min. Arrive and check-in at this beautiful Island in Lake Victoria.

After lunch, we will be privileged to do game viewing on foot accompanied by an armed ranger in the middle of the African forest. Walk around the beach while learning a lot from our MOTHER NATURE. Have a glance at the schools of hippo. The Island is home to sitatunga, otters, bushbuck, vervet monkeys. Rare sightings of black and white colobus monkeys, genet, marsh mongoose, suni antelope, and elephants. Rubondo Island is a perfect paradise for birding as over 400 species of birds have been seen including the African Fish Eagle. Our friendly guide is always happy to share with you about the behind the scene perspectives on this beautiful island and much more..! Some of Africa’s biggest crocodiles bask and lie in wait on the banks of Lake Victoria.

 The next day embark on a boat riding in Lake Victoria (depending on whether you may opt to go in the morning or late afternoon, this is the best experience for game viewing in Lake Victoria as we will be able to reach very remote parts of the Lake Victoria. Explore an uncountable number of Nile crocodiles, stopover at the breeding site for birds and observe schools of hippos. Rubondo Island offers an extraordinary experience you can’t imagine. Rubondo is another destination in Tanzania where you can also track chimpanzees apart from Gombe and Mahale.

Day 8: Rubondo Island-Mwanza

You leave Rubondo Island after breakfast with a picnic lunch packed safely away, and drive to Mwanza. You will check into your accommodation at Tilapia hotel.

Day 9: Mwanza –Dar Es Salaam

You leave Tilapia hotel after breakfast with a picnic lunch packed safely away, and you will be dropped off at Mwanza Airport for your flight to Dar es Salaam for your onwards connection.
