Three Days exploring the land of the big cats
After a relaxed breakfast leave the camp with a nice picnic lunch to sustain you on your way, and our fast stop is the visit to the world-famous archaeological site of Olduvai Gorge, also known as the Cradle of Mankind. The earliest remains of Homo sapiens were discovered here by Mary Leaky and anyone with an interest in mankind’s ancestors will be fascinated by this extraordinary place. Explore the quaint little museum and marvel at the rugged landscape. This pale anthropological site in the western of Ngorongoro crater is a steep-sided ravine composed of two branches that have a combined length of about 50 km and are 90 meters deep. Deposits exposed in the sides of the gorge cover have yielded a treasure trove of fossil remains.
After a great experience at the gorge, we proceed to the home, to the world’s last remaining large mammal migration, and spend your days exploring the central and eastern reaches of the Serengeti on safari, tracking the great array of game and wildlife that this vast area offers. If you’re here at the right time for the great migration May-June, this is the region where the herds are at their most concentrated as the annual rut of the Serengeti wildebeest occurs at this time of the year, at which mature bulls challenge for possession of temporary territories, with the mating rights to females on heat. It’s also an area of untamed natural beauty, of rolling hills, rivers, woodlands, and open plains. These are the home for iconic Africa’s big cats but even when the migration is not around game viewing is good throughout the year and is home to giraffe, buffalo, hippos, elephant, hyena, jackals, and a host of antelopes and birds species.
