Two days Ngorongoro highlands
You leave the Planet lodge after breakfast with a picnic lunch packed safely away. The Rift Valley landscape drifts past as your guide heads for Lake Manyara National Park, the day will be spent entirely on game viewing through the park exploring the parks vast habitats and landscape from the underground-water forest, marsh, swamps, acacia woodland, and the alkaline lake. Lake Manyara is known for the famous tree-climbing lions and is also home to elephants, giraffes, buffalo, baboons, and more than 400 species of birds recorded, and the ever-present lesser flamingoes. Stop for your picnic and in the afternoon leave Lake Manyara behind and head to your accommodation Bougainvillea safari lodge.
The following day you leave the lodge and drive into the Ngorongoro Conservation Area and down into the Ngorongoro Crater. Explore the crater for a day of game viewing from the plains where you might see zebra, wildebeest, and buffalo grazing and from far lions lazily lying on the grasses with their natural enemies’ hyena on the prowl. The forest is home to elephants while the mash and water bodies are dominated by hippos. The crater is also home to jackals, warthog, antelopes and the elegant beautiful grey crowned cranes, however, above all is the ever-present endangered black rhino which can be seen grazing from a far distance, or if you are lucky you might see them crossing the road. After an extensive day of game viewing and picnicking leave the crater behind and head to the lodge.
